UAE: University of Dubai strengthens Dubai Capital of Islamic economy initiative

AljanahiDr. Eesa Bastaki, President, University of Dubai, has stressed the importance of involving the academic sector in the development of the Islamic economy sector in the UAE to strengthen ongoing efforts in the Dubai Capital of Islamic Economy initiative.

During a meeting with Dr. Khalid Janahi, Advisor, Dubai Islamic Economy Development Center, Dr. Eesa Bastaki said government support was vital in the academic sector initiatives to develop the Islamic economy in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The meeting also emphasized the need for national universities to take practical steps to adopt Islamic economy as part of the curriculum in order to create competent advisers and specialists in this field.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Eesa Bastaki said: “The University of Dubai is aware of the growing importance of Islamic economy, and teaching this as a subject will help achieve the requirements of Dubai and all the emirates. The education sector must be involved in the efforts to transform Dubai into the global capital of Islamic economy.”

Dr. Khalid Janahi said the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Center will continue to support initiatives that strengthen the foundation of the Islamic economy in the local as well as international markets in the areas of Islamic finance, halal products, family tourism, digital economy, Islamic designs, knowledge sector, and Islamic industry.

During the meeting, both the sides agreed to continue to work together to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub to attract investments that strengthen the Islamic economy sector.
