The New Ritual Halal Meat Training Academy & Product Development Centre is now fully operational & open for business at the European Halal Food Park in Banham, Norfolk where Officials at Defra grant of £366,000, which is aimed to promote growth in rural areas.
The money comes from the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and will be used to buy equipment to make burgers and sausages in the park’s meat processing facility and ritual halal slaughtering Training
The European Halal Food Park at Moor Farm, in The Moor, Banham, near Attleborough, was approved two years ago to cater for the growing demand for Halal ritual slaughtered beef and sheep meat in the UK
The company’s website says that it “boasts the only dedicated 100pc non-stun abattoir for beef and lamb in the UK” with the Halal Burger Company opening in July and the Halal Sausage Company and the Halal Pet Food Company opening last month.
The firm added that it supports British farmers and was given full Defra approval in June following an inspection to appraise animal welfare standards and the ritual slaughter process.
The Defra spokesman added that the government has no plans to ban religious slaughter of animals. However, changes to all rules on welfare at slaughter will be required when a new EU Regulation on welfare at the time of killing comes into effect in January 2013.
Halal Training Course
The Halal Meat Academy, is the first of its kind in the UK, and is perfectly located to offer specialised training courses and workshops for all sectors of the Meat Industry.
The training academy has full access to a fully operational Abattoir, Cutting Plant, Catering Butchery and Further processing facility, which is ideal for the delivery of on the Job training for Slaughtermen, Butchers & Boners.
The Halal Meat Academy also has a dedicated unit managed by Nigel Weaver of NPD Services which can offer Product development facilities for NPD work and factory trials.
NPD Services have been successful in gaining the contract for delivering the training courses for the Halal Meat Academy, which includes Animal Welfare, HACCP Awareness, and the full range of courses accredited by FDQ, CIEH & IOSH.

The Ritual Halal Meat Academy, will be offering a number of further butchery workshops following the success of the courses held earlier in the year and further courses are planned for January 2013, focussed for the Halal butcher, to learn more about the advantages of adding value and better utilisation of Beef & Mutton Cuts to help ensure that they are optimising carcass yields, improve product quality and product profitability for the Halal market.
