UK: Tesco expands Halal and world beauty offering

Tesco has expanded its offering of world beauty and skin care products in the UK. 63 Tesco stores will now stock PAKS and

Vatika as well as new halal brand Tamese & Jackson.

The retailer has reported increased demand for ethnic hair and skin care products, reflecting an increasingly trend. While these products were once limited to specialised stores, bigger companies are now catering to this market.

Halal products appeal to ethical consumers as well as muslims, in a growing trend for vegan and cruelty-free products. Last month, WGSN predicted that halal personal care products will be the subject of increased demand from both muslims and non-muslims.

The move marks the first time that PAK Cosmetics will be available outside of a stand alone store. PAK Cosmetics is Europe’s leading Afro retail supplier and has been on the market for 27 years. The brand will now have its own dedicated position with Tesco stores. The range will include Mazuri and Olive Oil which was specially developed for use on Afro-Caribbean hair types. Products stocked will include hair relaxers, steam treatments, moisturisers for natural hair, curly hair and straight relaxed hair.

New premium brand Tamese & Jackson will also be stocked in Tesco stores. The company has the first large-scale halal-certified factory in the UK and Tesco is the first retailer to stock the new range.

The Tamese & Jackson range includes hand soaps, hand lotions, shower gels, body lotions, shampoos and conditioners. It is aimed at modern, young muslims who appreciate contemporary design and quality, whilst still valuing their tradition and heritage, as well as other general consumers.
