Women’s Role In Halal Food Control Stressed

Bandar Seri Begawan – Members of various women associations in the
country attended a special talk on the functions and roles in executing
halal food control in Brunei yesterday, through a family strengthening
course under the Islamic Da’wah Centre’s Tarbiyah Wanita Majlis Talim
programme.

Held at the centre, the talk on halal food control was among the
topics under the five-day family strengthening course according to
Islamic perspectives, designed to enhance participants’ religious
knowledge and provide them with confidence in performing their
religious obligations according to Islamic law.

Yesterday’s talk focused on the roles of women in executing halal
food control in the country which was conducted by Zurina Salwa Hj
Osman, education officer for the Halal Food Control Section under the
Syariah Affairs Department.

In her presentation, she covered the history of the section and
procedures to obtain official halal certifications as well as the
aspects of slaughter in the halal food perspective.

The speaker also highlighted the importance of halal food control as
it was introduced after the 1997 titah by His Majesty in which the
monarch urged the creation of a body or a representative to regulate
the entry of products, meat and others.

“We hope that the participants today will get the essential
information and understanding on the teachings which we have
contributed today and eventually work together with us in handling and
assist in observing halal food control in the country for the benefit
of our Muslim community,” she said.
