Azerbaijan prohibited sale of pseudo-halal products

salamiBaku, Fineko/abc.az. The State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents of Azerbaijan has taken a tough stand with regard to cheating the religious part of the country’s population.

According to the Committee, starting from April 1, 2014 it will impose prohibition for sale of products not conforming to standards AZS 757-2014 “Certification of “Halal” products”.

“In accordance with the certification rules, the sale of “Halal” titled goods will be prohibited starting from April 1, 2014. The enterprises selling such goods will be given time to change the labels of the products, otherwise such products will be removed from sale”, – the Committee said.

On October 29, 2012 the Committee approved three State Standards “Halal”: AZS 372-2012 “Halal standards for meat. General requirements to production, transportation, storage and sale”, AZS 386-2012 (CAC/GL 24-2012) “General rules for using the term “Halal”, AZS 731-2012 (O?C/SM??C1:2011) “Halal foods. General requirements”. The standards came into force on August 1.

Until now none of the meat food producers has ever applied to the Committee for getting the standards and produce fully Halal food products.
