TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said that halal economy has good prospects in Indonesia. Perry viewed that the development of halal economy in the country is important since many countries successfully support halal industry.
According to the central bank governor, there are four sectors of the halal economy with good prospects. “Halal culinary, halal fashion, halal tourism, and of course in the future, a sector related to halal cosmetics,” said Perry today, Feb. 21, in Bank Indonesia building, Jakarta.
Perry explained that one of the strategies to build a halal economy is by creating a visible halal ecosystem and it can be started from those four sectors.
“[Halal economy] can also be generated from a community. The ecosystem must be formed to a community-based halal economy, either Islamic boarding school (pesantren) or Muslim community, and industrial-based halal economy, either middle or high-class industry,” he added.
Therefore, Perry continued, Bank Indonesia issued policies that supported halal economy ecosystem, either by establishing economic development in communities such as in pesantren or setting up synergy with Sharia Finance National Committee (KNKS) and various industry players to develop a halal industry.
