JAKARTA – The Ministry of Religion’s Halal Product Guarantee Administration Agency (BPJPH) emphasized that products originating from materials that are not halal or non-halal must include non-halal information.
“In principle, the JPH regulation aims to provide protection and provide convenience for the public that halal products are clear and non-halal,” said BPJPH Head Muhammad Aqil Irham in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, March 25.
According to Aqil, the obligation for halal certification will be imposed by the Government starting October 18, 2024. BPJPH emphasized that products originating from materials that are not halal or non-halal are exempt from the obligation to halal certification. “Non-halal products are exempt from the obligation of halal certification,” he said.
For example, liquor, or pork food, can’t be registered with a halal certificate. This means that it is excluded from the obligation to halal certification.
Aqil also explained that these products are exempt from the obligation to halal certification, so that they can still be traded even though the obligation to halal certification has started in October 2024.
However, on condition that the product is given an explanation or a clear picture that products are made or contain non-halal elements. For example, the product containing pork is given information by including the inscription or image of a pig in the package.
This is in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 33 of 2014 Article 92, that business actors who produce products originating from prohibited materials must include illegal information. This illegal information can be in the form of images, signs, and/or writings included in product packaging, certain parts of the product; and/or certain places on the product.
