MELAKA, Nov 12 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will set up halal certification unit in all states to standardise halal certification nationwide.
Director-general Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abd Aziz said formation of the halal certification units had received pre-approval from the Conference of Rulers which met on Oct 12.
“A working paper on the formation of halal certification units will be discussed at this conference,” he told reporters at the 84th Heads of Department/Malaysian Islamic Council Conference at Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh here Friday.
Wan Mohamad said presently, application for halal certification could be made online via the website www.halal.gov.my.
A halal certification institute would also be build in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan by 2013 to meet the needs of the RM27.5mil industry.
“The institute will have a laboratory to determine whether the products are halal or not. We are now depending on the Chemistry Department for this,” he added.
