MITI Confident Budget 2010 Will Reinforce Malaysia’s Competitiveness

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) — The Ministry of International Trade
and Industry is confident the 2010 Budget will reinforce the country’s
competitive edge over its neighbours.

Its minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed however pointed out that implementation and delivery must be given upmost importance.

” It’s very important to ensure the effectiveness of the various
efforts put in place,” Mustapa told reporters here after the tabling of
the 2010 Budget by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Friday.

He said the announcement of an investment conducive environment by
the Prime Minister would continue to augur well for the private sector
to take the lead as the engine of growth.

Mustapa said an allocation of RM350 million to SME Corp was
crucial to ensure small and medium industries continue to contribute
towards economic growth.

On the corporatisation of the Halal Industry Development
Corporation as an agency under the ministry, Mustapa said the Act has
to be amended in Parliament and discussions towards that direction was
currently ongoing with the Economic Planning Unit.
