The National Commission for Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding with Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA) and SAHL International Pte. Ltd. of Singapore to further promote HALAL industry in the country.
The said partnership between the NCMF, IFANCA and the SAHL International was established to enhance cooperation and capabilities in halal certification activities in line with the HALAL coordination and linkage programs of NCMF.
The MOU was signed at the NCMF office by NCMF Secretary Mehol K. Sadain and Dr. Mohammad Munir Chaudry of IFANCA as well as Shahlan Hairalah of SAHL International.
“The matter of the Halal industry in the Philippines is seen as a very important aspect of the growth of Islam in the country. We aim to make our food and way of life as Muslims in this country equally Halal,” said Sadain.
Asec. Ernesto Mascardo Ramel Jr. expressed message of support from the Office of the President underscoring the potential economic impact of the HALAL industry in the country.
According to IFANCA, “HALAL in Arabic means lawful or permitted”. HALAL is used to label various products which can be safely consumed by Muslims. (PCCC/PAE/PIA Central)
