Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his
delegation were to leave Bangkok on Tuesday afternoon on a three-day
official visit to Qatar.
They were scheduled to depart from the air force terminal at 3pm on
a special flight, RTAF 203, to Doha, the capital city of Qatar.
Mr Abhisit, the first Thai government leader to visit the Middle
East nation, said the visit is to tighten Thailand’s relations with
Qatar, which is a country of high economic potential.
He would invite Qatar to invest in development projects in southern
border provinces of Thailand, particularly the halal food industry.
During his visit, Mr Abhisit will meet with Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem
Bin Jabor Al-Thani, the prime minister of Qatar, who is highly active
in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
