The world’s first-ever halal retreat has been launched combining spirituality with personal development for the fast-growing urban global Muslim traveller.
The Productive Muslim Retreat will be unique personal development journey over seven days with the aim of empowering attendees to live healthier and spiritually connected lives.
It is looking to target Muslim entrepreneurs, students and professionals who are looking to take time off to reassess their lives and learn practical life skills – while adhering to their faith-based requirements.
The Productive Muslim Retreat is a joint project launched by HalalTrip and ProductiveMuslim who say the retreat has been designed in line with demand from younger Muslims from across the world looking for unique travel experiences.
The first retreat will take place in a beach resort in Sri Lanka in November and will feature a host of activities including vision & productivity workshops, fitness sessions, nutrition consulting, volunteering at an orphanage and sightseeing through Sri Lanka’s historic sites and natural terrain.
The Muslim travel market is now widely recognised as a key growth tourism sector projected to be worth $200 billion by 2020 according to the MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2015, the most comprehensive research that has been released on the sector.
With a younger demographic, the urban and Muslim professional segment represents a major niche share of this global travel market.
Mohammed Faris, founder and CEO of ProductiveMuslim said they are expecting to run a number of subsequent retreats over the next few years in various locations across the world.
“We’re excited to partner with HalalTrip on this unique offering and can’t wait to meet the first cohort of this retreat for this year,” he said.
“The retreat incorporates spirituality, personal development, physical well-being, social work, and stunning sightseeing, providing an incredible way to escape the stresses of daily life, while practicing and living a productive Muslim lifestyle.”
Titled ‘Practicing and Living a Productive Muslim Lifestyle’, the first retreat will take place from November 19th to 25th at Tangalle, Sri Lanka. The seven day programme will include a stay at the 5* Anantara Tangalle Beach Resort. Activities will include spiritual reflection alongside jogging, cycling and visits to an orphanage. The group will also have a productivity expert, fitness instructor and nutritionist to hand throughout the duration of the retreat.
Fazal Bahardeen, CEO, CrescentRating & HalalTrip, said the retreat was a good example of how sophisticated the global Muslim travel market was becoming.
He said: “We have developed this project in direct response to the demands of the Muslims across the world and it perfectly highlights how quickly this market is developing and the opportunities it brings to the tourism industry.
“The launch of this retreat with ProductiveMuslim is a great example of how we would like to cater to the urban Muslim professionals who are looking for unique experiences which brings together personal development as well as a fun filled vacation.
“Our continued focus is to innovate and drive this segment through practical and deliverable solutions with niche bespoke products like this retreat.”
