The World Halal Forum 2010 saw the debut of the highly anticipated ICCI-IHI Alliance Halal Standard published modules to an overwhelming audience of Halal industry stakeholders who gathered in Kuala Lumpur for the 5th edition of the Forum.
The curtain came down on the 5th World Halal Forum (WHF) successfully on 22 June 2010, with plans to organise the second regional World Halal Forum Europe (venue and date to be announced).
MIHAS, the five-day international exhibition, which was jointly organised by the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and the Islamic Dakwah Foundation Malaysia (Yadim) in association with the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) witnessed the largest congregation of Halal industry players ever, showcasing the Halal concept in all its dimensions.
“Most countries where halal meat and poultry are produced and exported to OIC countries do not even have a halal standard. In the absence of halal labelling laws, the Muslim consumer has no legal recourse in the event of a fraud nor does he have any means of verifying the authenticity of an assurance label,” confirmed Darhim Hashim, CEO of the International Halal Integrity (IHI) Alliance, host of the World Halal Forum.
Malaysia, which has been in the forefront in developing inter-national standards for the halal industry, has launched two new standards for the cosmetics and logistics businesses, a move which will expand the global halal market potential, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.
