The Brunei Investment and Commercial Bank (BICB) recently received an award for ‘Brunei Deal of the
Year’ from the Islamic Finance News at a ceremony that was held in Kuala Lumpur.
The award, which was received by Hjh Fa’aizah Pehin Dato Hj Abidin, Managing Director of BICB, was for
the Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) US$505million shipbuilding deal for two liquefied natural gas carriers that
was co-arranged by BICB, Standard Chartered, Fortis and Societe Generale.
The deal has been dubbed as the largest Islamic ship financing transaction in Asia.
According to the Islamic Finance News, the transaction was a groundbreaker in terms of innovation,
successfully tying in Islamic finance with the industry of shipping.
The ceremony also saw several banks from Asia, Australia and the United Kingdom receiving awards for
various categories including country’s deal of the year, the most innovative deal and the best Islamic bank.
BICB is a local investment bank based in Brunei and is wholly owned by Brunei Investment Agency.
