Federal minister for Science and Technology Senator Shibli Faraz Addressed the Interactive Session with Stakeholders to Develop Understanding of Halal Regulations and Role of Halal Certification Bodies to make Pakistan Halal Products Globally Acceptable as a Chief Guest.
While addressing the conference, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Senator Shibli Faraz said, “It gives me an immense pleasure to inform that the Government of Pakistan has approved Pakistan Halal Authority Business rules and Pakistan Halal Certification which is a milestone achieved by Pakistan Halal Authority.”
The Federal Minister Senator Shibli Faraz emphasized on fast growing Halal Market having potential of trillion dollars’ worth in international market. The global market is based on needs and performance of estimated 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide growing at twice the rate of non-Muslim world and expected to reach 2.2 billion by 2030.The Halal sector is currently attracting the attention of policy makers and private sector. Surprisingly most of the leading countries in this emerging Halal trade are non-Muslim countries such as Brazil, Australia, Thailand, China, Korea, South Africa, and America etc.
Pakistan Halal Authority has accomplished the finalization of long time pending PHA business Rules 2021 and Certification Marks Regulations 2021 which will make the Pakistan Halal Authority to regulate Halal Products and services as per international practices by implementing Single Pakistan Halal Logo as mark of Halal Assurance in addition PHA financial Rules are developed which will transform PHA as self-sustained and self-financed organization in line with Government policy within next six months. The main hurdles in recruitment of Technical and Non-Technical manpower have been removed after approval of PHA recruitment Regulations by Federal Cabinet.
The Halal Certification Marks Regulation will assure the products and services complying Halal requirements, Single Pakistan Halal Logo on the products will be the sign of verification that the product is in accordance with Halal standards and regulations. This Halal Certification Marks is a key step for ease of doing business and single window operation, it will also provide registration and recognition of local/ foreign Halal Certification Bodies (HCB’s).This will guarantee the consumers that products / processes fulfill the requirements of Halal certification. As per proposed MoU Halal Certification Bodies, accredited by the internationally recognized Accreditation body will be accepted by counterpart organization of the proposed countries on the similar way. PHA will accept the certificates of proposed counterpart organization of the countries, accredited by the internationally recognized Accreditation body, instead of individual registration / affiliation of Halal Certification Bodies.

The interactive session was attended by Dr. Syed Atta-ur-Rehman, Additional Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh, Head of Mission , Malaysian High Commission, Mr. Akhtar Ahmad Bughio, Director General, Pakistan Halal Authority and relevant stakeholders from Government and Private Sector.
