10th February, 2022: Future plans of halal meat sector and administrative matters of the agency were discussed.
Chairperson Punjab Halal Development Agency Shafqat Rasool Ghumman called on Secretary Livestock Naveed Haider Shirazi who stated that Halal Development Agency has an important role in Punjab’s halal meat sector as this agency, under Punjab Halal Agency Act 2016, is responsible for halal food trade and issuance of halal certificates in the province.
He also stated that PHDA remained non-functional for a long time, therefore, it has now been restructured with new ambitions for the sector. It is worth mentioning that Secretary Livestock Punjab has recently nominated Mr. Shafqat Rasool Ghumman as new Chairperson of Halal Development Agency vide Punjab Halal Agency Act 2016.
The other members of PHDA include; Secretary Auqaf & Religious Affairs, Secretary Industries, Secretary Livestock, Secretary Agriculture and Secretary Food Punjab. The technical experts of the agency include; Ali Khan (CEO URS), Zareen Rehman (Nutritionist), Sarfaraz Rehman (Halal Food Market Development), M. Najeeb Khan (Religious Affairs), Khalil Sattar (Poultry Sector) and Engineer Raja Abid Younas (Livestock Industry).
The meeting between Chairperson PHDA and Secretary Livestock was also attended by Additional Secretary (Planning) and Director Communication. The Board of Directors’ meeting is scheduled to be held next week.
