Accreditation Department at Dubai Municipality has organized the first meeting of experts’ committee for preparing set of requirements for accreditation of halal slaughter certification authorities.
This move comes within the strategic plan of civic body and in line with the initiative of HH. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, VP, Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai to make Dubai the capital of Islamic Economy.
On this occasion, Amina Ahmed Mohammed, director of Accreditation Department said the term accreditation authorities in the field includes control and inspection authorities, agencies that issues halal certificates for food stuff, cosmetics and personal care items in addition to other local and international authorities concerned with control and inspection of foods and other goods.
The committee will be issuing accreditation to these aforesaid authorities to give halal certificates, she said.
She said, for fixing the set of requirements, the committee has closely studied specifications and requirements set by Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology as well as The Standards & Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries.
According to her the committee has experts from various fields including specification, halal certification, laboratory field, public health & safety, animal care, veterinary control, slaughtering and food safety.
The first meeting was chaired by Amina Ahmed Mohammed in the presence of Khalid Mohammed Sharif, director of food control department of Dubai Municipality.
It noted that the accreditation department at Dubai Municipality has many international recognition in its credit. It include the recognition from International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (2009) GCC Standardization Organization (2012) and from International accreditation Forum and Pacific Accreditation Council (20013)
