Taiwan and Malaysia are set to jointly host a series of online Halal cosmetic market events, highlighting the partners’ commitment to expanding business opportunities for mutual enterprise, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs Aug. 15.
Organized by the MOEA Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration and SME Corporation Malaysia, the central coordinating agency under the country’s Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, the event includes a forum Aug. 20 and a business matching session Sept. 5.
The forum comprises topic discussions spanning regulations, market trends and experience in each country, the MOEA said. Highlight speakers include Tim Lin, CEO of SEAbizs, who will share successful examples of Taiwan cosmetic businesses expanding into the Malaysian market; Vivi Saliza binti Sunaini, senior assistant director of the Secretariat of the Malaysian Halal Council of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), who will analyze the Southeast Asian country’s regulations on Halal certification and cosmetics; and a representative from Malaysian brand Tanamera, who will elaborate on the potential of the Malaysian Halal-certified cosmetic market, the ministry added.
The business matching session has already attracted 41 Malaysian business participants, including those seeking to purchase Taiwan products like Suba Beauty Care; groups looking for manufacturers such as TH Alliance Connect; enterprises in pursuit of technological cooperation like Kasyifah Spa; and distribution agents such as Avantcom International, according to the MOEA.
Halal demand among the Malaysian general population accounts for about 70 percent of the country’s consumer base, and the demand for Halal-certified beauty products has grown significantly as the country’s import of cosmetics increased by 22.5 percent in recent years, the MOEA said. The government will assist Taiwan SMEs to tap into the Malaysian cosmetic market through cooperation with Malaysian official partners, the ministry added. (YCH-E)
