Over 100 goods to use Brunei Halal premium trademark

MORE than a hundred products manufactured in and outside the
Sultanate will be marketed under the Brunei Halal brand by June next
year, The Brunei Times learned.


This is the short-term objective
of the Brunei government which yesterday made available to the public
two products bearing the Brunei Halal brand as it begins its first
foray into the international market following the establishment of
Ghanim International Food Corporation. The company is the joint-venture
vehicle that will manage the use of the country’s premium halal brand
to the world.

Brunei Halal Brand Unveiled

A new company, government-owned Brunei Wafirah Holdings Sdn Bhd, has
been established as the owner of the Brunei Halal brand.


At the IHPE2009 His Majesty took a first look at the first two products using the
Brunei Halal brand: prawn crackers from Marimin Sdn Bhd and orange
juice from Healthson Corporation Sdn Bhd from Malaysia. Mock products
bearing the new brand were also on display to give a preview of what
Brunei’s future in the halal industry could shape up to be.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN,
July 30 (Bernama) — The Brunei government aims to have up to 100
products under the Brunei Halal Brand by June next year. Acting director of Agriculture Department of Industry and Primary
Resources Ministry, Normah S.H. Jamil, said currently two products were
marketed under the brand — prawn crackers and orange fresh drink.


“Initially, the Brunei Halal Brand mark will appear on food and
beverages products. In future, the range will be expanded to include
health, beauty and pharmaceutical products,” she told reporters on the
sidelines of the Fourth International Halal Products Expo 2009 (IHP
2009) here Thursday.

Bandar Seri Begawan – Becoming standards-compliant within the halal
industry for a small and medium enterprise (SME) will open up new
avenues for them to market their goods or services, said a senior
analyst from the coordinating company for the International Halal
Market Conference (IHMC).

“Being standards-compliant is a challenge for them (SMEs), but if
they make that jump and become compliant with international standards,
(then) the market opens up for them in a much greater way,” said
