IHPExpo Gets Thumbs Up

The 4th Brunei International Halal Products
Expo 2009 (IHPExpo) saw its final day yesterday and received positive
feedback from members of the public, some of whom also offered
suggestions on subtle changes to enhance the local halal products
industry. The prestigious four-day event featured 135 companies, of which 88
were local, while the rest hailed from Singapore, The Philippines,

financial crisis, the 4th International Halal Market Conference heard

WHEN it comes to the global halal pharmaceutical industry, size doesn’t matter.

“In
terms of countries and in terms of what is expected in the industry, it
is all standards driven. So if you have good standards that are
internationally recognised and they’re understood and flexible, these
are all pluses. So I wouldn’t not say a smaller country versus a large
country means that it is at a disadvantage,” said Selma Djukic,

Brunei’s halal pharmaceutical guidelines have
yet to be released and await the endorsement of the Brunei Islamic
Religious Council (BIRC), the senior scientific officer of the Ministry
of Health’s (MoH) Pharmaceutical Services Department said yesterday.
Initially slated to be unveiled during the Fourth International
Halal Market Conference (IHMC), the guidelines are supposed to address
the different aspects of risk areas pertaining to the production of
halal pharmaceutical products Zubaidah Hj Mahmud told The Brunei Times
