Lahore: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Standing Committee on Halal Meat Convener Nasib Ahmad Saifi said that one of the major problems facing the Halal meat sector in Pakistan is the loss of electricity and gas.
He told the media that Pakistan has the potential to become a leader in the Halal sector. Saifi said that the Halal products were moving into mainstream business and their demand was steadily increasing.
He said that Halal products are now seen as a potential engine of economic growth with an annual turnover of hundreds of billions of dollars globally.
However he said that the sector was facing a power break of 12 to 14 hours per day as a result of non-availability of gas. It is forced to keep going on diesel generators and this adds cost making the businesses uncompetitive on the international market.
He said that countries like India and China were capturing the international halal market despite being non-Muslim countries.
