KUALA LUMPUR, (Bernama) — Halal Development Corporation (HDC), an agency under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, has appointed Datuk Mahmud Abbas as chairman, effective July 30, 2019.
As chairman, he will play a significant role in advancing Malaysia’s halal agenda, while focusing on a stronger international presence, said HDC in a statement.
“This includes raising the nation’s profile as a top producer of halal products and services in the world, as well as a preferred destination for halal businesses,” it added.
HDC said with over 30 years of experience in the corporate sector, Mahmud possesed a strong record in leadership roles.
His portfolio includes serving as managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd, project director at UEM Land Bhd, managing/project director at Alliance Sdn Bhd and General Manager of Enstek Industrial Park.
More recently, he served as CEO of public-listed company, Knowledge Economic City (KEC) in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. His major career achievements include overseeing the turnaround of Central Spectrum by developing the state’s halal arm.
