ISLAMABAD: Eight leading Pakistani companies are participating in the 14th edition of the Malaysian International Food and Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB 2013) being held at the Putra World Trade Centre from June 6-8, 2013.
The event which was inaugurated by Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob the Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Malaysia has drawn over 350 trade exhibitors from more than 20 countries which would exhibit their products at the 3-day event. Over 100 Halal food exhibitors will also participate in MIFB 2013.
The Pakistani pavilion showcasing the rich food and agri products of Pakistan, including mango and other seasonal fruits, drew a large number of visitors and potential buyers.
Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob visited the Pakistani pavilion where he was received by Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia Shahid Masroor Gul Kiani who briefed the minister about the various Pakistani food and agri products put on display.
The minister evinced keen interest in the Pakistani food products and appreciated their better quality and fine taste, which had endeared them to the general populace in Malaysia.
Shahid Kiani met with the Pakistani delegation of exporters and exhibitors representing different products and lauded their initiative to attend the fair to reach out to the vast market of Malaysia.
Kiani urged the Pakistani exhibitors to use the occasion to study market trends and align their products to the market standards based on consumers’ concerns for health, food safety and environmental sustainability.
The fair should also motivate the Pakistani companies not only to introduce new products but also observe what the world has to offer in a sector, in one single place and in a short space of time, he added.
Pakistani products such as rice, spices, pickles, kheer, vermicellies, fried onion, cooking pastes, teas, preserves (murabas), wheat, mango, onion, potato, cereals, porridge, desserts (custard powder, jelly quick set, kheer mix, firni khas), corn flour, rice flour, pearl barley, laundry kulf, ice cream powder are in great demand in Malaysia and many of these products will be displayed on the Pakistani booth in the trade fair.
