Thaifex ends on a high note

The sixth edition of Thaifex – World of Food Asia ended with a bang.
21,101 trade visitors crowded the halls of Thaifex – World of Food Asia
2009, conducting business with the 988 exhibitors from 21 countries/
regions. Some 21% (4,431) of the visitors came from abroad,
representing 104 countries/ regions around the world. The figures are
quite consistent with the last two fairs.

Halal Exchange expects to double supplier base

HALAL Exchange, a web-based platform for buyers and suppliers to
showcase their products, expects to double its supplier base in
Malaysia to 200 this year.




At the just-ended MIHAS, major retailer Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd
came on board to use the exchange platform. The platform enables the
retailer to have a comprehensive global sourcing solution ensuring
visibility to an international base of suppliers and increased
administrative efficiencies for trade processes.





“It provides
us with an industry-leading platform that not only increases our
potential supplier base, but also supports our drive to improve our
internal information processing and deliver increased value to our
customers,” said Tesco Malaysia chief operating officer David Hobbs.

4th International Halal Market Conference organising committee is
holding a workshop to help small business in the Sultanate expedite
their entry into export markets for halal products.

The strategy
for this year’s conference slated for August will be to hold a workshop
before the conference to discuss issues and gather feedback from
potential and existing halal exporters, said Effandi Hj Salleh, head of
the entrepreneurial development centre of the Ministry of Industry and
Primary Resources and a member of the organising committee of the
